French Toast

Do you know the secret to great French toast? Cooking it in butter. Of course, everything tastes better in butter. This is another simple, basic recipe that everyone should have on hand. French toast is one of those thing that I make when dinner time has sneaked up on me and I have no idea what to make.

2 cups milk

2 eggs

1/4 cup sugar

1 loaf French bread, sliced

Butter for frying

Heat a griddle to 350 degrees or use a heavy bottomed skillet on the stove, heating it over medium heat. Melt a pat of butter in the pan.

Beat the milk and eggs together, adding the sugar. You can use a whisk or a fork.

Soak the bread slices in the egg mixture turning to coat it on both sides. Remove the bread and plop it in the pan in the melted butter.

After 2-4 minutes, the bread should be light brown on one side. Turn it with a spatula and cook the backside.

Remove the French toast slices to a plate and serve piping hot. You can serve it topped with powdered sugar, sliced fruit, or maple syrup.
